So a website with a link that says “now” goes to a page that tells you what this person is focused on at this point in their life. For short, we call it a “now page”.
Life
Life has pretty much continued its churn as usual. I've been watching movies and TV shows (recently restarted both Stargate SG-1 and Blacklist) and playing video games (Door Kickers 2 finally launched after years in early access and it's been good). I've noticed having similar feelings about the prolonged unemployment than I did during the pandemic: both are something that are hopefully temporary but since there's no knowledge of when they'd end, it's hard to start doing anything meaningful and the attention span towards anything is super short as I'm just constantly hoping for this to end.
Work
The beginning of the year has been quite a rollercoaster. I'm still unemployed and despite a very positive looking start to the year in recruitment side, all of them came crashing and burning down. There were a handful of jobs that I was super excited about and in many of them I got through multiple rounds of interviews until rejection. Simultaneously, the days when I get paid good unemployment benefits is counting down real fast and I need to make some hard choices this spring if things don't turn up better.
Communities
It's been a rough year in the community side as well. A lot of the companies have decided not to support local meetups this spring or this year and for the first time in our almost 10 years of operation, we have to cancel events due to lack of sponsorships. That, combined with challenges in finding speakers and all the hassle going on in personal life has gotten me doubt about everything.
Tiny joys
I've been enjoying a new Youtube channel Beyond the Whistle by a British guy who referees grassroots level English football leagues and talks about the matches and analysing his performance. While I'm not a referee or won't be one (I've refereed exactly one football game in my life), it's really interesting to hear about games from his perspective.
