Week 35 of 2023

Weeklies are my notes of things not big enough for a blog post but worthy of being mentioned and linked to. Find all of my Weeklies at /weeklies.

  • Blaugust 2023 In Review

I participated in Blaugust blogging challenge in August and here’s a recap of all the participating blogs (100+ of them!) from the organizer of the challenge, Belghast

  • How to pass a coding interview with me

Robert Heaton’s article on how to pass his interview had a bunch of good general tips for interview prep but also shows elements of why I think tech interviews are bad through personal biases and opinions.

  • Explaining The Postgres Meme

Aryan wrote incredible piece explaining a huge range of Postgres topics from a iceberg meme picture. A must read for anyone working with Postgres.

  • Adding webmentions to your static blog

I recently added a way to add comments to my blog via Mastodon as a first step on my way to build webmentions integration. This post by Jan walks through very well what they are, how they work and how to implement them on a static site.

  • Educational, sensational, inspirational and foundational

A great collection of educational, sensational, inspirational and foundational articles and posts on web development. Curated by Zach Leatherman

  • Technical leadership and glue work - Tanya Reilly

This great talk by Tanya tackles one of the challenging pieces of work life: glue work, how to recognize and promote it and what to do when you’re in a situation where you do a lot of glue work but it’s not appreciated.

This hit very close to my heart as I always do a lot of glue work: partly because I enjoy it but also because I feel a shared responsibility for that and want to do my part instead of just ignoring it and letting problems pile up.
