Blaugust 2025 retrospective: Surprising Rainbow Diamond Award

Somehow, August has flown by and we’re almost at September. And by that, another year of Blaugust is in the bag.
At the beginning of this month, I wrote about how this was my third Blaugust and that since I had failed to come up with a theme for the month, I wasn’t aiming for the main goal: 31 posts in 31 days. And yet, here we are. This is my 31st post published in August 2025 and for the third time in a row I’m finishing with the coveted Rainbow Diamond Award. How did this happen?
There’s enormous energy in a community of people aiming for a shared goal. As soon as the month kicked off and the blogosphere, Mastodon and Discord all started to buzz with excitement, great discussions and way over a hundred people participating, I found sudden inspiration to write.
That’s why I love blogging challenges and festivals. As people come together, magical things can happen.
You can find all of my 31 posts in the category page for Blaugust 2025.
I’m really happy with most of the posts this month. Dotfiles feel too intimate and personal to share was the most viral one as it reached front page of Hacker News and was shared in a few other sites as well. Naming devices is fun, Blog comments, a must-have or fun extra? and Questions and answers about blogging were all part of larger discussions in the web and sparked good chats with plenty of people.
Board game nights are my favourite way to socialise and make new friends was a post that was born when I read another post about overrated board games while I was playing board games with my colleagues.
I also took part in this month’s IndieWeb Carnival this week by writing about the main colour of this website’s light theme called ruby red.
In general, I’m real glad I took part again and that I found the inspiration to write daily. I found a ton of new blogs from first-time Blaugustans and made new friends along the way.
Starting next week, I’m back to my regular Wednesday schedule with occasional extras on other days.
