Find new blogs to follow from this year’s Blaugust participants

Blaugust has started with a bang again and we have over 100 participants blogging this year and more are still joining. It’s a lovely community for sure.

While a lot of Blaugust fun is for people who write a blog themselves, it’s also a great way for readers to find new blogs to read and follow.

A fellow Blaugustan owls did a wonderful job and compiled an OPML list of all the RSS feeds of the participating blogs and shared it in their blog post. You can download the file and import it to your RSS reader and you’ll get a lot of new blogs to follow.

If you don't use RSS readers, here's a list of participating blogs, list compiled by Wilhelm Arcturus:

A tip to manage the firehose

Since during Blaugust, a lot of people post daily, these blogs will probably drown everything under them and it can feel exhausting. That’s why I always import them into a separate folder so I can read them separately from the rest of my feeds.

I also prune the feeds very aggressively. Whenever after a couple of posts I notice someone’s blog is about something I don’t care about, I delete them from the folder. At the end of the month, I then move those I’ve found most enjoayble into my main folders to follow after the event is over.

Every year, out of the 100+ blogs I find a small handful of new ones that I continue following in my feed reader.

A few early picks

Here’s couple of blogs that are participating this year that I want to highlight.

Jessica Smith is publishing her blog as part of her digital garden at https://www.jayeless.net/. I’m always excited when I discover new digital gardens in the web and spent a good amount of time exploring Jessica’s garden when I discovered it.

A fellow developer and pythonista Dávid joined Blaugust and I’m looking forward to reading more from him this month.

StalkingVengeance writes about gaming and recently especially Magic the Gathering at Cubic Creativity, sharing great insights into building MtG decks on a budget.

V.H. Belvadi mentioned in his note 75 that he’s planning to join Blaugust this year. Whether he does or not, I want to highly recommend his wonderful, insightful posts. He writes really good, well researched and beautifully written essays.

Another fellow pythonista and community builder I’m excited to see participating in Blaugust this year is Nik Kantar.
