I will be speaking at PyCon Finland in Jyväskylä 17.10.

The rubber ducks are coming to Jyväskylä near you!
I’m excited to announce that I will be speaking at PyCon Finland when it returns from a 9 year hiatus in Jyväskylä October 17th.

PyCon Finland this year will be part of the Plone Conference as a single-day conference and tickets are now for sale! You can either buy a full Plone Conference ticket that includes PyCon Finland or get a special one-day ticket for just PyCon talks (and Plone sprints on Saturday).
I will be speaking about Debugging Python and will reveal all my tricks for how to master the art of debugging.
I spoke 9 years ago in the last PyCon Finland before this. It was my first ever developer conference talk and I was naive enough that I only had an unpracticed live demo that used live website that I didn’t control with no backup slides. Luckily everything went well: internet and the website worked and I didn’t freeze. I’ve learned since that it’s good to not rely on live sites and to have backup slides and code examples.
A side story from a decade ago

Also, the last time I organised an event in Jyväskylä was exactly a decade ago when on October 16–17th we organised Rails Girls Jyväskylä workshop. It’s been criminally long since I’ve been doing tech stuff in Jyväskylä so it’s about time to return to the beautiful city.
I made a bunch of good friends during that event, although I haven’t been keeping in touch as much as I should have with many of them. It’s amazing to reminiscence how much has happened since knowing that some of the participants of the workshop have had long careers in tech since that workshop.
Organising and coaching in various Rails Girls and Django Girls workshops between 2013 and 2017 was such an incredible experience and every now and then I dream of starting to do something similar again.
If something above resonated with you, let's start a discussion about it! Email me at juhamattisantala at gmail dot com and share your thoughts. In 2025, I want to have more deeper discussions with people from around the world and I'd love if you'd be part of that.
