I’m happy when people learn and are inspired

Another Saturday bonus as this Saturday’s Blaugust group project is Small joys, big smiles:

Small joys, big smiles: talk about a tiny thing that makes you disproportionately happy.

In a previous job as a developer advocate running tech community activities, I always liked to mention how my most important metric for success is seeing a smile on people’s face when they leave an event.

Whether it’s developer meetups, hackathons, trainings, workshops or casual gatherings, I want to create something that helps people learn, to meet likeminded people and to become inspired by each other’s stories.

As a community builder, the most important thing I can do is help people meet each other. I get to know people closely over the years so when new people join and I learn about their interests, I can always help them to find others who have common passions.

Success of a community is a result of many daily tiny actions that over time lead to big smiles and at best, life-changing experiences and connections through new friends, jobs or business partners — whatever people end up doing together.

I love it when I run into someone in the most unexpected circumstances and hear that they’ve participated some of my workshops or meetups and those experiences have helped them enter the industry.
