Saturday Extra: Raindrops

It’s Saturday, August 16th. The summer has been extra hot as a three week heatwave just recently started to cool down.
I had plans for the day but a surprise panic attack on my way to a hockey game from last night left me with no extra energy today so I’ve been chilling.
I lie in bed and listen to the rain on a chilly 14°C afternoon. I live on the edge of a forest and a good rain sounds amazing as the raindrops hit the leaves of the trees right outside my bedroom window, creating a soothing hum noise and the drops that make it through the leaves dance rhythmically on my windowsills.
Rain is one of my favourite soundscapes in the world. Probably only rivalled by a lack of sound that a great snowfall creates on a wintery night. I lie in bed and relax. A panic attack is a horrific experience at the moment it hits but it has some cathartic side effects as it drains my energy so completely that I’m forced to just chill and recover and that recovery feels great.
Nothing beats a good, safe storm. We’re not quite there today but the sounds of the rain and occasional light breezes blowing through my open bedroom window make me happy. There’s no sounds of traffic or construction, just the nature at its best.
I relish in the knowledge that it’s only Saturday and I still have tomorrow before going back to work. I can focus all day today on chilling, listening to nature and reading a good book (by Becky Chambers, of course). Busy life slows down.
