Three Rules, a new podcast by Matt D’Avella
Matt D'Avella is a great storyteller whose Youtube videos and podcasts I've been following for a long time. This month, he started a new podcast I want to share with you.
The podcast is called Three Rules and it's a short-form podcast where Matt has a discussion with a guest who share 3 rules that helped them find success or happiness in life.
The episodes are short which I'm all for. So many podcasts I struggle to make time to listen but 15 minutes runtime with three clearly separated sections is just perfect. The podcast itself is of the Matt D'Avella quality that we've gotten used to.
In the first episode, author and Youtuber Ryan Holiday joined Matt to discuss his three rules: always be reading, seek out mentors and "say yes, then say no".
Reading more books and long-form content is something I want to focus on myself more. This year, I did read more than the previous years while I still struggle to make time for reading.
Ryan's thoughts on mentorship align with those of Simon Sinek's and both of them make a great point about how to approach finding a mentor. Instead of asking someone if they'd be your mentor, get into discussions with people, ask questions and through those interactions, build relationships. I haven't had a formal mentorship with any of my mentors, they have just formed through working together, having great discussions and through those, learning more and finding clarity.
Saying no is the hardest one for me because I'm the type of person who gets excited about so many wonderful things in life and the world around us. I rarely end up in situations where I'd say yes to things I don't want to do – those I'm good avoiding. But saying no to things I do want to do is hard. So far, saying yes to many good things has led me to exciting adventures and a fulfilling life so I'm not too worried.
I'm looking forward to the future episodes and discussions.
