Welcome to Blaugust 2025

The alarm clock rings in the morning to welcome me to a brand new day. This time, it’s no ordinary morning. The calendar has turned to August 1st and that marks the beginning of this year’s Blaugust. I wave a hello to my favourite polar bear friend and put on my best festival gear and prepare for a wonderful 31-day celebration of our writing craft.
Blaugust is a blogging festival taking place during the month of August. A community of bloggers get together to write and share — you’re more than welcome to join us! It’s a festival that’s been going on for over a decade now and I learned about it and joined the fun in 2023 so this is my third year. If you want to learn more about the festival and how to join, read my earlier post linked at the start of this paragraph.
It’s customary to begin Blaugust with introductions.
Who am I?
Hi, I’m Juhis (he/him). I’m a community builder, software developer, public speaker, blogger, board game enthusiast and a Pokémon fan. I started blogging in the early years of the 2000s and have had many different blogs hosted in different platforms and containing many different themes.
My current website, the one you’re on (unless you’re reading this on your RSS reader; if you are, good for you!) right now I built in 2018 which also marked a renaissance of writing and I’ve been blogging regularly ever since.
I’m originally from Finland but life has taken me to many adventures to Shanghai, San Francisco and across central Europe.
I write about a variety of things:
- technology (especially web development)
- my life and hobbies
- note-taking and learning
- opinion pieces on things that are on my mind
- occasional reviews of films, series, books, events and games
- and pretty much anything else that crosses my mind.
You can follow this blog via RSS and I also write a monthly newsletter From Juhis with Love in which I recap the highlights of what I’ve worked on + fun and educational stuff others have published in the Internet. Or you can bookmark the blog and check if every few days if that’s your jam.
Blaugust and I
The first two years that I’ve participated in Blaugust, I took on the original challenge of 31 posts in 31 days and completed it both years. In 2023 I followed the event’s weekly themes and in 2024 I wrote daily about Python’s standard library.
This year, I don’t really have an idea about what I’ll write about. I’m not aiming for the 31 in 31 Rainbow Diamond Award.
Instead, I’m aiming to publish something every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday in August. My regular blogging rhythm is posting something every Wednesday with occasional posts on Mondays and Saturdays so this plan fits well into that: it’s not quite as ambitious as posting every day but is challenging me to write a bit more than usual and stick to a routine.
And since routines and plans are made to be broken, I’m starting on a Friday as I wanted to write this introduction on the very first day of the month.
If you’re looking for a new blog to follow, add mine to your reading list for August!
If something above resonated with you, let's start a discussion about it! Email me at juhamattisantala at gmail dot com and share your thoughts. In 2025, I want to have more deeper discussions with people from around the world and I'd love if you'd be part of that.
